Just a few years ago, Bontrager was a journeyman component name.  Bontrager products were reliable, but nothing special.  But Keith Bontrager has a degree in Physics and pioneered the modern lightweight mountain bike rim in the early '80s.  Keith has always been an innovator, and as Trek evolved from a journeyman bike manufacturer into one of the top lines in the world, Bontrager evolved as well.
