There are tons of choices in full suspension, but it ultimately comes down to two factors:  lightness and travel.  Trek and Cannondale offer you some of the best bikes available in all the following categories:

Rear travel Rider Profile  Bike weight
2 to 3.5" X-country race light aluminum or very light aluminum or carbon
4 to 5" Long rides and more challenging terrain, X-country and 24-hour race Light aluminum, very light carbon
5 to 6" All-day, all-mountain, 4-cross competition Medium
Extreme  Freeride and DH Heavy

Please keep in mind, full suspension bikes require more service than any other bike designs.  You can get cheap full suspension with no-name shocks, but your swing arm won't last more than a couple of months.  You try to get it serviced, and you find out the shock manufacturer doesn't have a service department.  If you're on a tight budget, you're better off with a hardtail.
