Frame Material:  Carbon, Aluminum, or Titanium?

Things to keep in mind:

  1. The best carbon and titanium technologies exist in the U.S., thanks largely to our aerospace industry.
  2. The best aluminum technology costs less than the best carbon or titanium technology.
  3. Engineering is more important than material when it comes to comfort and performance.  Carbon and titanium have a reputation for a smooth ride, but can be formed into a very unforgiving frame.  On the other hand, well-engineered aluminum can give you an exceptionally comfortable ride.

A Word on the Pros

With all the doping scandals, the days of buying the bike ridden by your favorite pro are pretty much over.  We will, however, continue to mention race results, because we believe they still say something about the performance of our top bikes.  Whether or not you think "they're all doing it", the fact remains that the big races in Europe are still the best test lab for cycling hardware.
