All 'cross bikes on sale! See our stock highlights for models and sizes The Specialized Tricross has been a mainstay for folks who enjoy riding wherever they want, whether they are touring on pavement, commuting, or taking advantage of the network of logging roads in the Green Mountain National Forest. Thanks to a tall head tube, Tricross geometry is friendly even for a low flexibility rider, and the long wheelbase makes for a stable ride. Specialized has been a relatively late entry into cyclocross competition, with the Crux. The Crux Carbon has similar wheel base and frame angles to the Tricross, so we have a good, reasonably light, very stable performer that won't be as nimble as a frame with more aggressive geometry. The Crux Alloy, however, sports a significantly shorter wheelbase than the other two Specialized 'cross frames. One of the cool things about the Crux Alloy is that it's available frame-only for well under $1K, if you want to build your 'cross bike from the ground up. The '10-'11 'cross season we saw Specialized pro Todd Wells on an alloy prototype of the next generation Crux, slated for release in '12, with Specialized's most aggressive 'cross geometry yet. And finally, remember how our 'cross intro page noted that deep rims cut through loose sand like butter? Check out why the deep-rim Specialized Roval 45 received Cross Bike Review's 2010 Cross Gear of the Year award.
