Mountain bikers smile while the roadies rave about SRAM's new road groups ;-) We've enjoyed SRAM's cutting-edge mountain bike components for years. SRAM started with shifters and chains, moved on to derailleurs, then acquired RockShox, Avid, and Truvativ. That's a lot of in-house talent for one company! Look for SRAM components on some of the best mountain bikes out there! SRAM shifters are famous for their ultra-quick rear derailleur actuation ratio of 1:1. When you move your shift lever, the derailleur moves the same amount, so there is less effort involved in your shift. Shimano, on the other hand, has a 2:1 ratio, so you have to move your lever twice as far as the rear derailleur will move. All three of SRAM's X-level systems offer pro-level functionality. As always, you pay more to get less. The lighter the weight, the higher the cost, due to more exotic materials like carbon, titanium, and magnesium:
